Santiago el Real places a large church among narrow streets. Study its portal, then follow the nave towards vaults and sanctuary when the interior is open. The surroundings recall pilgrims passing through Logroño, while the church remains an active parish. Ask about tower visits and stair conditions before including a climb. Allow a quiet pause rather than rushing between religious interiors.

Plan this visit
Church and tower require different decisions
The council documented restoration of the tower staircase in 2025. That background does not replace checking a current visit. We suggest deciding separately whether to study the nave or climb: an ascent requires considering effort, conditions and arrangements rather than adding it automatically to a church stop.
Relate the building to the route
Before entering, study the church in relation to the Pilgrim Fountain and Goose Game square described by tourism. The exterior reveals travellers’ movement as part of urban life. Treat legendary interpretations of the game as stories, not archaeological proof of a hidden meaning.
