Gate and tower show how artillery changed urban defence. The rounded tower was built after the resistance of 1521, so not every stone recalling the siege was present during it. Look for coats of arms, gun openings and wall thickness. The exterior makes a short walking stop; check opening arrangements before planning to explore the galleries inside the defensive structure.

Plan this visit
Read a gate as a public message
Municipal information identifies the double-headed eagle and city coats of arms above the gate. We suggest studying them after observing the depth of the passage: defence and representation coexist in one entrance. Fortification controls movement but also communicates who holds authority over the city.
Choose the scale of the route
To understand the round bastion, compare its exterior curve with nearby walls. For interior interpretation, check current opening and visit arrangements before arrival. An open urban passage does not imply access to galleries or elevated areas. The exterior reading remains worthwhile even if an interior session does not fit your schedule.
