Príncipe de Vergara Promenade, better known as El Espolón, changes the pace between old town and newer streets. Espartero's equestrian monument and the shell-shaped auditorium form a small outdoor collection. Rather than adding another hurried visit, use the gardens and benches for a break. Check the programme when events or concerts are taking place, and keep routes clear for others.
Sources checked on 19 October 2026. Opening and access may change. The walk does not include admission; allow extra time for interiors. Routes have not been audited for accessibility.
Plan this visit
Compare monument and stage
We suggest relating the equestrian monument to La Concha: one fixes a figure in space, the other directs attention towards performances. Observe how viewpoint and movement change around them. The promenade becomes a sequence of public uses rather than simply a garden for rest.
A green pause or a cultural activity
Decide whether you want to sit and slow down or attend a performance. An auditorium does not guarantee daily programming; check the date and conditions of the event you want. For a break, choose a section matching your remaining time and leave entrances and prepared activity areas clear. Return to the old town without turning this into another interior visit.
