The mining company’s name can mislead: the Riotinto pier extends into the Odiel. It was a gravity-loading facility, restored for public use in 2007. The mining company’s name can mislead: the Riotinto pier extends into the Odiel. It was a gravity-loading facility, restored for public use in 2007. The pier preserves mineral transport history in a structure extending into the estuary. Observe how supports, tracks and platforms turned landscape into industrial infrastructure. Today’s walk offers a different relationship with water and light. Check open sections and consider wind, heat and paving; the route is not audited for accessibility.

Plan this visit

Its form explains its former work

The loading pier was the end of the mineral railway journey. We suggest tracing the supports, curve and levels with your gaze: they help interpret an industrial place beyond its role as a promenade.

A connection recovered in 2025

The Port of Huelva announced the inauguration of the connection between sections on 31 July 2025. Distinguish the historic infrastructure from the recent intervention. That announcement documents the work but does not itself guarantee access on every date.

Choose how to finish the route

We suggest ending a city-centre walk here if you prefer to finish beside the estuary. Check access arrangements and available time before organising the return. After the museum, compare mining as explained by objects with the loading pier’s scale.
