El Fontán invites you to look beyond monuments and notice everyday city life. Its arcades, the façades around the square and the covered market form an ensemble with a strong commercial character. Walk around the edges and see how the views change beneath the arches. Nearby stalls and shops sell food and Asturian products, with activity depending on the day and time. The square, the market building and the surrounding street markets are related but different spaces. Pause to discover ingredients that may later appear on an Asturian table. Ask permission before taking close photographs of traders or customers.

Plan this visit
Square and market are different
Distinguish two experiences: looking at the square and finding active trading. The regional calendar distinguishes the surrounding market from the food market hall. If you want to shop, check the particular event and trading hours; an accessible square does not guarantee open stalls. To study the architecture, compare the continuity of the arcades with entrances and the open spaces left towards the centre.
A purposeful break
Choose this stop to slow down after an interior visit, but decide whether you want to sit down or browse stalls. These are different plans requiring different kinds of attention. When travelling with a group, agree on a recognisable meeting point rather than trying to walk together through every commercial corner.
