Pause in Plaza de Alfonso II el Casto and let your eyes follow the tower upwards. The cathedral displays the strength of Gothic architecture, but this place preserves an earlier history. Its Holy Chamber houses important objects from the Asturian kingdom, including the Cross of the Angels and the Victory Cross. They are religious objects and enduring symbols of Asturias. Outside, enjoy the façade and consider how the cathedral organises the old town around it. If you enter, allow separate time for the cloister and collections. Check admission arrangements beforehand and respect religious services and worshippers.

Plan this visit

A complex with changing scales

Within the authorised route, compare the nave, cloister and display spaces through their scale and ways of looking. Choose one detail in each setting rather than trying to remember everything: a relationship between height and light, an object and its presentation, a passage between rooms. The visit becomes more meaningful when you distinguish building, collection and place of worship.

Choose admission and route

The official source distinguishes the cathedral complex from the tower ascent, which requires a separate visit. Services can also require a partial route. Check the planned arrangement before booking. If you need step-free access, ask about each space specifically: an adapted entrance does not mean that the Holy Chamber and museum are wheelchair accessible.
