Around Santa Ana and La Rúa streets, the Fine Arts Museum invites you to see Oviedo through its buildings and artworks. The ensemble combines historic architecture, including the Velarde Palace, with a contemporary extension designed by Francisco Mangado. Observe that relationship from the street: the city belongs to several periods rather than just one. The collections span centuries and techniques, from painting and sculpture to applied arts. If you enter, choose a few rooms and enjoy them without turning the visit into a race. This also makes a good rainy-afternoon plan. Check the most suitable entrance and visiting conditions on the museum website.

Plan this visit

Two ways of looking

The museum explains that its extension inserts new architecture behind earlier façades. Make that relationship part of your visit: compare what the street leads you to imagine with the interior spaces available on the open route. Then select an artwork and notice how distance, light and wall surface affect your attention. Building and collection can work together without turning the visit into a race through every room.

Make your own selection

If you have time for only one museum, decide whether you want painting or archaeological history: Fine Arts and Archaeology answer different interests. Inside, select a few works to observe carefully and use the plan to locate them. The architectural description of the extension does not guarantee that every floor or department can be visited.
