MACE introduces a creative Eivissa that extends beyond the ancient-town image. Founded in 1969, it grew from the biennial begun in 1964 and occupies the former armoury inside the walls. The contrast between defensive architecture and contemporary work invites a different approach: an artwork may organise space, question a word or employ unexpected materials. Instead of hurrying through every gallery, choose one piece and spend a few minutes with it before reading its explanation. Ask how it relates to the light, building and neighbouring works. Collection displays and temporary exhibitions follow different rhythms; consult the current programme rather than assuming an older advertised show remains present. Give the museum its own block within your walk.

Plan this visit

Choose drawings and graphic work too

The museum presentation separates its permanent collection, posters, drawings and video. We suggest comparing different media if displayed: notice how attention changes between a still image, a word and work that unfolds over time. The selection need not focus only on paintings.

Give one work time

Before reading its explanation, spend a few minutes describing material, scale, light and relationship to the room. Then compare your first reading with the museum information. Recognising every artist is not necessary to build a personal experience of observation.

Check exhibition dates

The collection and temporary programme follow different calendars. Confirm which presentation is current rather than assuming an older homepage item is still running. Make the museum a dedicated block of your walk: a rushed entrance between climbs limits the attention available for the artworks.
