The navigable moat is one of Ceuta’s most distinctive sights: water between high stone walls, linking the two bays. Explore views from bridges and look for reflected fortifications. A boat trip reveals another scale of the complex; check boarding location and sea conditions when choosing a departure.

Plan this visit

See water as part of the defences

We suggest comparing the moat from two permitted public positions, one near a bridge and another to the side. Observe how water separates the defensive fronts and crossings join them again. Changing position explains the ensemble’s function better than one photograph centred on the channel.

A land walk or a boat experience

The tourism website describes both waterside observation and boat trips. Decide which you want before allocating time. For boarding, confirm operator, departure and activity conditions; navigable water does not guarantee continuous service or allow independent entry. The exterior walk remains worthwhile if you choose not to take a water-based trip.
