See how the citadel relates to this small cove. Separate the viewpoint stop from beach access: opening, stairs and sea conditions can change plans. Reaching a viewpoint does not guarantee a swim. With children, favour protected observation areas and respect local notices.
Sources checked on 19 October 2026. Opening and access may change. The walk does not include admission; allow extra time for interiors. Routes have not been audited for accessibility.
Plan this visit
Beach and citadel in one image
The cove brings together two scales: the strip of sand and the walls dominating the coastal edge. From a permitted position on the walk, examine how the framing changes when you include or exclude the fortification. This provides a concrete way to understand the setting of Melilla la Vieja without making the stop depend on reaching the water.
Separate the view from beach season
The municipal 2026 announcement specified an opening season between 27 June and 10 September; that calendar does not establish permanent access outside those dates. A swimming plan therefore needs current confirmation of opening. For a heritage route, retain the exterior view as your objective and continue without making the descent to the beach a compulsory passage.
