Portal de ses Taules marks a change of scale between the harbour neighbourhood and the fortified town. Its ramp leads to an entrance within Dalt Vila's Renaissance defensive system. Crossing it reveals how walls also organised who entered, where and under whose supervision. Before climbing, notice the mass of masonry and how the approach channels movement. Pause afterwards in the parade ground known as the Rastrillo, then continue towards Plaça de Vila. Compare the gateway from both sides: outside, defence dominates; inside, streets, homes and everyday activity emerge. Take the ascent slowly, especially in hot weather. Passing through this historic entrance does not guarantee access to every bastion, interpretation space or museum within the enclosure.

Plan this visit
Distinguish originals from replicas
The sculptures beside the entrance are replicas of originals held in the archaeological museum. We suggest noticing their role beside a defensive gateway: a city can use images from an earlier past to give solemnity to an entrance from another period.
Look before and after entering
Outside, observe how the route concentrates towards the portal; then compare the feeling after passing through. Do not reduce the stop to hurrying towards the next square. Changing sides helps explain the boundary between neighbourhood and fortified enclosure.
Climb with a decision already made
Choose whether to continue towards the upper town or first take a shorter route. The monumental entrance does not guarantee access to all museums or wall sections. Check your next destination before gaining height to avoid returning for an unchecked booking or opening arrangement.
