Jabalquinto changes the architectural language of the walk. Juan Alfonso de Benavides commissioned the palace in the late fifteenth century; its Isabelline Gothic front combines diamond-point ornament, heraldry and decoration that rewards slow looking. Begin with the overall composition, then follow one motif between windows and upper details. The Renaissance courtyard and Baroque staircase, when accessible, add later chapters to the original residence. The building belongs to the Antonio Machado campus of the International University of Andalusia, so academic life continues within the monument. Compare its exterior with Santa Cruz opposite and the old university nearby. The three offer different ways of expressing prestige, education and religious space. Check university access rather than assuming every room functions as a museum.

Plan this visit

Choose one motif to follow

The façade combines geometric ornament, figures and heraldry. Choose one family of motifs and follow it between the windows rather than trying to identify every decoration. Then look at the upper section to compare different densities of ornament. If the courtyard is accessible, change focus: study the rhythm of arches against the more elaborate exterior.

A campus still in use

UNIA confirms that the palace forms part of its academic campus. Do not treat it as a museum with every room available. Confirm access to heritage spaces and respect classrooms and university services. If the interior cannot be visited, compare the palace with Santa Cruz from outside: their relationship remains interesting without intruding into a working building.
