The Magistral Cathedral stands at the medieval town’s core, where streets once led towards the gates in the walls. Cisneros promoted the present Gothic building from 1497; cathedral status followed in 1991 when the diocese was restored. Distinguishing a church’s age from its institutional title helps explain its successive stages. Before entering, walk around Plaza de los Santos Niños and consider the tower’s relationship with the main building. Inside, look first at the structure before concentrating on chapels and museum objects. Check included areas and any tower climb separately: an entrance open for worship does not guarantee a complete cultural visit. Continue afterwards towards Plaza del Palacio.

Plan this visit

A fragment in a new setting

Municipal visitor information identifies a reconstructed doorway from the Archbishop’s Palace in the cloister. If that space forms part of your visit, use it to compare a surviving fragment with the palace exterior. Ask what a relocated piece can explain and which spatial relationships it can no longer show. This connects two stops without assuming that the present display recreates its original position.

Choosing the day

The official page checked on 27 October 2026 lists tourist visits as closed on Sundays. The tower has its own timetable, and religious events can change access. Check the cathedral, tower and San Bernardo separately before arranging a combined ticket; sharing an offer does not mean that every visiting slot is shared.
