La Seu defines Palma's seaward skyline, but its artistic story continues inside. Light from the great rose window interacts with Antoni Gaudí's interventions and Miquel Barceló's ceramics. Look beyond a single overall photograph: notice colours changing across the stone and different periods coexisting within the church. Afterwards, Parc de la Mar lets you step back and recover a view of the whole ensemble.

Choose what fits your visit
Three decisions to organise the day without turning it into a checklist of tickets. Routes and time allowances are editorial suggestions; adjust the order to your bookings and pace.
01
Cathedral or Almudaina: choose around its calendar
The Cathedral and Almudaina let you compare religious power and royal residence in one part of Palma. For a first half-day, we suggest choosing one interior and adding Parc de la Mar and the old town. Almudaina normally closes Mondays and may have additional institutional closures. Check its own calendar before buying: neighbouring buildings do not mean shared hours or automatically combined admission.

02
Bellver: plan the final section from the bus
Bellver’s municipal information distinguishes the tourist-bus stop from city routes through El Terreno, which leave an uphill walk. We suggest choosing how to reach the castle first, including steps or road according to your approach, then saving another block for the centre. Also check its normal Monday closure. Reaching the neighbourhood does not put you at the entrance or provide an effortless access route.

03
Es Baluard: decide between collection and setting
Es Baluard brings together museum, walls and terraces overlooking the bay. For art, we suggest checking exhibitions and making them the main block; for urban architecture, combine the surroundings with La Lonja and a break in Santa Catalina. Seeing the complex does not establish access to every gallery or activity. Choose for its content before purchasing, allowing time to study the building and its relationship with the defences.

Start / resume a walk

Santa Eulàlia illustrates the difference between a church's history and the age of its façade. The side walls retain their Gothic character, while the main front and bell tower were remodelled in Neo-Gothic style in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries after the 1851 earthquake. Walk around the building to compare the two languages. Near Cort, the church shows Palma reinterpreting its own past.

Es Baluard places contemporary art within the setting of the former Renaissance walls. The relationship between historic defences and present-day creativity is part of the experience before you even enter an exhibition. Notice how the museum opens towards the bay and Cathedral. From the terraces, compare the cityscape with the architecture framing it: heritage and contemporary Palma meet here.

Portixol lies on the coastal route linking Palma with El Molinar and the Platja de Palma area. It offers a chance to exchange monuments for the horizon and see how the promenade connects neighbourhoods. When walking, keep clear of the cycle lane. This stop is about the landscape and rhythm of the waterfront rather than a particular indoor attraction.

Outings and practical plans
Arriving and finding your bearings
The airport has a city bus connection; choose your stop for accommodation rather than cathedral proximity. Plaça d’Espanya concentrates rail and intercity bus connections. Walk the centre, but Bellver, Cala Major and Playa de Palma are not adjoining old-town stops.
Two routes to choose from
La Seu and the old town
Estimated time: 4 hours with one interior
Start at Parc de la Mar for cathedral views, climb towards La Seu and Almudaina, then follow old-town streets to Cort and Plaça Major. Choose one main interior rather than successive admissions. View courtyards from public areas without assuming private entrances are open. Finish near shopping streets for lunch or the return towards Plaça d’Espanya.
La Lonja and Santa Catalina
Estimated time: 3 hours with a break
From La Lonja walk towards Es Baluard for bay views, then continue to Santa Catalina. Choose market, museum or lunch as the main stop according to the time. Bellver needs a separate transfer rather than being two streets away. This route reveals maritime and everyday Palma alongside the cathedral and monuments.
Nearby outings
Sóller y Port de Sóller
Town and port offer mountain and sea settings. Decide between the historic-train experience and practical transport; heritage rail and ordinary public transport are different products.
Historic train or TIB bus according to preference; add the link between Sóller and its port.

Valldemossa
A mountain village for a slow walk and a cultural visit. Do not combine all of Tramuntana in one day. Cobbles and slopes call for comfortable shoes even on a short outing.
TIB bus from Palma or car; check frequency and last return before extending the walk.

Alcúdia
The walled historic town offers a different day from the beach. Distinguish Alcúdia from Port d’Alcúdia; swimming adds another area and time, not a step from the square to the sea.
TIB intercity bus or car; choose old-town or port stop according to your plan.
View on map ↗With children
For families combine Parc de la Mar and a short old-town walk with one main admission. Treat the aquarium and its transfer as a separate plan outside the centre. Beach and several monuments in one morning are unrealistic with heat, breaks and distances.
In the rain
La Seu, Almudaina or Es Baluard offer heritage or art in rain. Book by interest and keep the circuit compact with lunch nearby. Bellver and gardens are not entirely sheltered; in persistent rain prioritise interiors and check transport before leaving the centre.
What to try and where to pause
Ensaimada and coca de trampó suit different snacks; tumbet and seasonal Mallorcan cooking suit lunch. Sobrasada is not vegetarian even on bread or vegetables. At markets distinguish produce stalls and restaurants and check kitchen hours.
